Woodland Hills splits into two very different kinds of junk jobs: houses on quiet streets and hillside lots, and big apartment buildings around Warner Center. The City's free programs fit one far better than the other. Here's how each works, and where things can go on the west end.
What jobs look like in Woodland Hills
The two ZIPs look nothing alike on paper. In 91364, south of the freeway, about 74% of homes are detached houses and roughly 29% of households rent.[1] In 91367, which takes in Warner Center,[2] about 52% of housing units are in buildings of five or more, and about 55% of households rent.[3] Housing in 91364 dates to about 1967 at the median, and 91367 to about 1975.[1],[3]
So a Warner Center request is often an apartment move-out: a sofa, a bed frame and a pile of boxes, with an elevator or stairs and a loading spot to sort out. Tell us the floor, whether there's an elevator, and where a truck can stop. South of the 101, the neighborhood climbs into the Santa Monica Mountains, with its southern edge running roughly along Mulholland Drive.[4] Hillside jobs there are more about the carry: steps, slopes and how far the truck sits from the door.

Local rules that affect your junk
Woodland Hills is inside the City of Los Angeles,[5] so LA Sanitation (LASAN) sets the rules for most houses:
- Free bulky pickup covers homes of 1 to 4 units that LASAN services, with no set limit.[6] You book at least one business day before trash day[6] through MyLA311 or 1-800-773-2489, and list every item.[6]
- Move-out boxes can go out through a separate Move-In/Move-Out pickup, booked a business day ahead, with each bag or box under 30 pounds and 2 by 3 feet.[7] Without that booking, loose cardboard stays at the curb.[6]
- Paint, chemicals and remodel debris are refused at the curb.[6] Hazardous items go to a S.A.F.E. Center, which takes paint, pool chemicals, propane, batteries and electronics.[8]
Watch the edges. Woodland Hills borders Calabasas and Hidden Hills, which are separate cities,[4] and ZIP 91364 also covers part of the Santa Monica Mountains.[9] ZIP lines don't follow city limits,[9] so check who collects your trash before you book a City pickup.

City pickup or a hauler in Woodland Hills
The deciding question here is often what kind of building you live in.
| Situation | LASAN bulky pickup | Hiring a hauler |
|---|---|---|
| House or duplex, items already at the curb | Free on your trash day[6] | Usually not worth paying for |
| Apartment in a large Warner Center building | Built for 1–4 unit homes,[6] so ask your manager | Crew carries it down and loads it |
| Lease ends before your next trash day | Needs a business day's notice and waits for trash day[6] | Book a set day, often next-day |
| Heavy pieces on a hillside lot | You move them to the curb | Crew handles the carry |
If LASAN serves your house and you have time, the City option is hard to beat. When the building, the stairs or the move-out date gets in the way, text us photos.
Getting a dumpster in Woodland Hills
A bin in a house driveway is the simplest setup, though we couldn't confirm any City rule for driveway placement, so ask when you book. LADOT's Special Traffic Control Division handles temporary no-parking signs at (213) 485-2298.[10] Posted street-sweeping routes are swept every other week and parked vehicles get cited,[11] so check the signs before anything sits at the curb.
Apartment residents usually can't place a bin at all without the building's say-so. Bin sizes are on our dumpster rental page.
Where things can go near Woodland Hills
General local options, not our partners. Call before you drive.
- Goodwill Southern California, 21840 Ventura Blvd., Woodland Hills, a boutique and donation center.[12] A second one is at 6415 Platt Ave. in West Hills.[12]
- Habitat for Humanity LA ReStores take working appliances under 8 years old and furniture with no missing pieces.[13] Their pickup costs $50 and needs items on the ground floor, in a garage or at the curb,[13],[14] which rules out most upstairs apartments.
- Hazardous waste and e-waste: North Valley S.A.F.E. Center, 10241 N. Balboa Blvd., Northridge, weekends 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.[15]
- Landfill: Calabasas Landfill, 5300 Lost Hills Road, Agoura,[16] open Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.[16] It restricts which areas it accepts waste from,[16] and we couldn't confirm whether Woodland Hills qualifies, so call first. Sunshine Canyon in Sylmar charges a one-ton minimum on every load.[17]
- Mattresses: a retailer delivering a new mattress must offer to take the old one,[18] and Bye Bye Mattress sites take them free.[18]
For moving out, our moving-out checklist covers the last week, and the Valley donation guide lists more drop-offs.
When a hauler makes sense
A move-out on a deadline, a third-floor couch, or a garage that won't fit one trash-day pickup are the usual reasons people call. Snap a few pictures of the items and the way out, add your ZIP, and our North Hollywood crew will send a price and the next open day in Woodland Hills.

Woodland Hills: questions
Do you offer same-day pickup in Woodland Hills?
Don't plan on it here. Same-day service most days when you reach us by early afternoon; next-morning slots are common. Woodland Hills, though, is about 14 miles west of our North Hollywood base, so the realistic plan is next-day or a day you book ahead. Text us photos of what's going, where it sits and your ZIP. We'll answer with a price and the earliest day a crew can get out to you.
Can I use LA's free bulky pickup from a Warner Center apartment?
Usually not directly. LASAN's bulky item service is written for homes with 1 to 4 units that LASAN collects from. In a larger apartment building, your property manager or the building's trash company handles oversized items, so ask them first. If their option doesn't fit your move-out date, a hauler can carry things down and out.
Is all of Woodland Hills in the City of Los Angeles?
Woodland Hills itself is a City of LA neighborhood. Its west and southwest edges border Calabasas and Hidden Hills, which are separate cities with their own trash service. ZIP 91364 also reaches into the Santa Monica Mountains, and ZIP lines don't follow city limits. If a City of LA truck empties your bins, LASAN's programs apply to you.
What won't LA Sanitation take from the curb?
Construction materials such as concrete, bricks and dirt, plus paint, solvents, chemicals, auto parts and used oil, medicine and needles, fluorescent lights, and commercial appliances. Loose cardboard is also refused unless you've booked a Move-In/Move-Out pickup. Paint, chemicals and bulbs go to a S.A.F.E. Center instead.
How does LASAN's move-out pickup work?
It's an extra trash-day pickup for boxes and bags that you book at least one business day ahead. Each bag, box or bundle has to stay under 30 pounds and 2 by 3 feet, and cardboard must be flattened and tied. Furniture still goes through a regular bulky item request, which needs an itemized list.
Where can I donate furniture in Woodland Hills?
Goodwill Southern California has a boutique and donation center at 21840 Ventura Blvd. in Woodland Hills. For working appliances or building materials, Habitat for Humanity LA ReStores accept them, and Habitat will pick up for a $50 fee if the items are on the ground floor, in a garage or at the curb. Drop-off at a ReStore is free.
Is there a landfill close to Woodland Hills?
Calabasas Landfill at 5300 Lost Hills Road in Agoura is the nearest, open Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It has a wasteshed restriction, meaning it only takes waste from certain areas, so call before you load up. Sunshine Canyon in Sylmar takes public drop-offs without an appointment, but it bills every load for at least one ton.
Where do I take old paint and batteries from Woodland Hills?
The nearest permanent drop-off is the North Valley S.A.F.E. Center at 10241 N. Balboa Blvd. in Northridge, open weekends from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It's free for LA County residents and takes paint, solvents, pool chemicals, propane cylinders, batteries, fluorescent bulbs and electronics, up to 15 gallons or 125 pounds per trip.
What should I do with an old mattress in Woodland Hills?
If you're buying a new one, the store has to offer to take the old one back at no extra cost when it delivers. Otherwise, California's Bye Bye Mattress program has drop-off sites that take mattresses and box springs in any condition. City of LA homes can also put a mattress out for LASAN's free bulky pickup.
