Woodland Hills has hillside houses in one ZIP and large apartment buildings in the other, and a bin rental looks different in each. This page covers what to know before you rent one here: driveway slope, Warner Center buildings, fire-season parking, the city edges, and when a pickup is simpler.
South of the 101: houses on the slope
ZIP 91364 is house country. About 74% of its housing units are detached single-family homes, and only about 29% of households rent.[1] The median home there dates to 1967.[1] South of the freeway, the neighborhood climbs into the Santa Monica Mountains, with its southern edge running roughly along Mulholland Drive.[2]
That terrain is the main bin question. A roll-off needs a fairly level, firm spot and enough straight length for the truck to set it down. A steep or curving driveway may only take the 15-yard bin, or none. The fix is simple: send us a photo of the driveway from the street before you book, and say how steep it is.
15-yard bin: $479, with 1 ton of disposal, delivery and pickup included. 20-yard bin: $579, with 2 tons of disposal, delivery and pickup included. Rental length and any charge over the included weight are confirmed when you book. Prices are for addresses within about 10 miles of North Hollywood (91606). Farther out? Call or text for a price.Warner Center and the apartment side
ZIP 91367 is the opposite picture. It takes in Warner Center,[3] about 52% of its housing units are in buildings of five or more, and roughly 55% of households rent.[4]
In a large building, the lot, the garage and the loading zone belong to the property. A bin only goes where the manager allows, for as long as they allow. Tenants clearing a unit usually don't need a bin anyway, since there's no debris being generated over days. The bin makes sense for an owner turning over a unit with new floors and cabinets, or for a condo association's common-area project.
Street placement, sweeping and Red Flag days
Wherever the curb is an option, check the posted sweeping days; signed routes are swept every other week and vehicles left there are cited.[5]
On hillside streets posted as part of a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, parking is banned on LAFD-declared Red Flag days, and vehicles left there are towed.[6] LAFD averages 4 to 7 such days a year.[6] If your street carries those signs, keep the bin off it and expect a delivery or pickup to move when a Red Flag day is called.
Check which city you're in
Woodland Hills is a City of LA neighborhood,[7] but it's bordered on the west and southwest by Calabasas and Hidden Hills, which are separate cities.[2] ZIP 91364 also reaches into the Santa Monica Mountains,[8] and ZIP lines don't follow city limits.[8] Everything on this page assumes a City of LA address. If another city collects your trash, its rules on bins and haulers apply, so ask that city first.
West-end disposal geography
Two landfills come up most often for the west end. Calabasas Landfill is at 5300 Lost Hills Road in Agoura,[9] open Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and it restricts which areas it accepts waste from.[9] Simi Valley Landfill & Recycling Center, at 2801 Madera Road, takes construction and demolition debris, household trash and green waste, but no hazardous waste.[10],[11] We list these as general information about the area, not as where any bin goes.
Hazardous leftovers like paint, pool chemicals and batteries go to the North Valley S.A.F.E. Center at 10241 N. Balboa Blvd. in Northridge, open weekends 9 to 3.[12]
We don't take paint, chemicals (like motor oil and solvents), tires, asbestos, medical waste, ammunition or propane tanks, empty or full. We'll point you to the right drop-off.Woodland Hills bin prep
- Confirm LA Sanitation collects your trash, not Calabasas or Hidden Hills.
- Photograph the driveway from the street and note its slope and any turns.
- In a Warner Center building, get the manager's OK for a spot and a time limit.
- Look for Red Flag signs on your street before choosing where the bin sits.
- Keep brush in the green bin and save the roll-off for mixed debris.
- Set aside paint, pool chemicals and batteries for the Balboa Blvd. S.A.F.E. Center.
When a pickup is simpler than a bin
On a steep lot or in a big building, a crew is often the easier answer. Nothing has to be set down on the slope, and nothing blocks the garage for a week. The crew carries items from where they sit, up the steps or down the elevator, and loads the truck on the spot. Same-day service most days when you reach us by early afternoon; next-morning slots are common.
Yard projects on the hillside are a good example. Brush and trimmings go in the green bin,[13] and LA Sanitation homes get one free brush pickup a year, in tied bundles no longer than 4 feet.[14] A roll-off is for everything else: the old fence, the broken planters, the rotted deck.
Send photos of the job and the access, plus your ZIP, and our North Hollywood crew will tell you which one fits your street.
Where this is
Questions
Can a bin go on a steep hillside driveway in Woodland Hills?
Sometimes. A roll-off needs a reasonably level, solid spot and enough straight length for the truck to set it down. Send a photo of the driveway from the street, and mention the grade and any tight turns, and we'll tell you honestly whether it works.
What happens to a bin on a Red Flag day?
If your street is posted as part of a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, parking is banned there on LAFD-declared Red Flag days and illegally parked vehicles are towed. Keep the bin off a posted street, and expect a delivery or pickup on those days to move. LAFD says Red Flag days average 4 to 7 a year.
I'm in an apartment near Warner Center. Can I get a bin?
Only with the building's approval. Most housing in ZIP 91367 is in buildings of five or more units, where parking and loading areas belong to the property. Ask the manager where a bin could go and for how long. If there's no spot, a crew can carry things down and haul them off in one visit instead.
My address says Woodland Hills. Could it be outside the City of LA?
It could. Woodland Hills borders Calabasas and Hidden Hills, which are separate cities, and ZIP 91364 also covers part of the Santa Monica Mountains. ZIP codes don't follow city lines. If LA Sanitation doesn't collect your trash, you may be under another city's rules, so check with that city before booking any bin.
Can I fill the bin with brush from clearing the hillside?
Ask first. Brush and tree trimmings belong in the green bin under City rules, and LA Sanitation homes get one free brush pickup a year in tied bundles. A roll-off makes more sense for mixed debris, like an old deck or fence plus the plants around it. Tell us what the load will be when you book.
Where are the nearest landfills to Woodland Hills?
Calabasas Landfill on Lost Hills Road in Agoura is closest, open Monday to Saturday from 8 to 5, but it restricts which areas it accepts waste from, so call first. Simi Valley Landfill on Madera Road takes construction debris and household trash. This is general information, not where any particular bin is taken.
