Northridge is a big neighborhood, 9.47 square miles by the council office's count,[1] and it takes in Cal State Northridge, apartment blocks and long single-family streets. It's also home to one of LA's S.A.F.E. Centers, so the free drop-off for paint, batteries and electronics is inside the neighborhood rather than a drive away.
What jobs look like in Northridge
The Ronald Reagan Freeway (SR-118) runs along Northridge's northern edge.[1] The main streets through it are Roscoe, Devonshire, Nordhoff, Corbin, Tampa and Reseda.[1] Cal State Northridge has its own ZIP, 91330.[2]
The two main residential ZIPs are close to identical. In both 91324 and 91325, about 53% of occupied homes are rented, detached houses make up just under half the housing, and buildings of five or more units make up most of the rest. Both have a median build year of 1970.[3],[4] So a week of Northridge work can include an apartment move-out, a family garage and an office.
Offices come up too. One Google reviewer, Julie R., wrote: "I recently had some junk removed from my office in Northridge and Ricardo and his team at Legacy Junk Removal exceeded all expectations." For an office job, we need to know about loading areas, elevator bookings and building hours. The office furniture guide covers what can be resold, donated or recycled, and commercial junk removal covers how we work.
Local rules that affect your junk
Northridge joined Los Angeles in 1915[1] and has its own City Planning community plan.[5] The City rules that matter most here:
- Bulky pickup for homes. Free, with no stated limit, for LASAN-serviced homes of 1 to 4 units,[6] booked at least one business day before trash day.[6] How to book it: bulky item pickup in LA.
- Electronics. California bans TVs, monitors, laptops, printers and phones from the trash.[7] LASAN takes large e-waste on a free bulky pickup and at S.A.F.E. Centers, and asks you to wipe personal data first.[8] The TV and electronics guide has details.
- Businesses are a different case. LASAN won't take commercial appliances at the curb,[6] and approved e-waste collectors are listed in CalRecycle's eRecycle directory.[9]
- Moving boxes. The Move-In/Move-Out pickup takes flattened, tied cardboard and bags up to 30 pounds each.[10] The moving-out checklist walks through the last week of a lease.
- Appliances. Fridges, washers and water heaters go free through LASAN's metal appliance pickup; fridge doors come off first.[11]
- Batteries, including e-bike and scooter batteries, never go in a household bin.[8]
City pickup or a hauler in Northridge
| Your situation | City option | Hiring a crew |
|---|---|---|
| Office furniture and equipment | No residential bulky pickup for a business | We clear it around your building's rules |
| Apartment move-out, 2nd floor | Free if the building is on LASAN service; you carry it down | We carry it down |
| Paint and chemicals from the garage | S.A.F.E. Center on Balboa Blvd., weekends[12] | Still goes to the S.A.F.E. Center |
| A truckload you can haul yourself | Monthly Saturday drop-off on Vanalden Ave.[6] | Skip the trip; we load it |
| Needs to be gone this week | Next trash day, if booked in time | Same-day and next-morning pickups most days |
The City route is free, and in Northridge it's closer than usual: the S.A.F.E. Center and a LASAN drop-off yard are both inside the neighborhood. Where it falls short is time, stairs and business waste. More on the trade-offs in city bulky pickup vs. a private hauler.
Getting a dumpster in Northridge
For an office or commercial property, the landlord or property manager usually decides where a bin can go. For a house, a driveway spot is the simple option. Sizes and scheduling are on dumpster rental.

When to hire a crew
Northridge has two free City drop-off sites inside the neighborhood. They work if you have a vehicle, a weekend and the time to sort. When you don't, or it's an office on a move-out deadline, a crew handles the whole load in one visit. We come in from Victory Blvd in North Hollywood. Text us photos of the job and we'll reply with a price.

Northridge: questions
Is Northridge in the City of Los Angeles?
Yes. Northridge voted to join Los Angeles in 1915, and today it's a City of LA neighborhood with its own community plan, which also covers Sherwood Forest. LA Sanitation handles trash and bulky pickup for the homes it services. The main ZIPs are 91324 and 91325, with 91330 for Cal State Northridge and 91343 shared with North Hills.
Can you clear out an office in Northridge?
Yes. Office cleanouts are part of our commercial work, and a Northridge office cleanout is one of the jobs in our Google reviews. Tell us about the building's loading area, elevator reservations and any after-hours rules when you send photos. LASAN's free bulky pickup is a residential program, so a business normally needs a hauler for desks, chairs and filing cabinets.
Where's the S.A.F.E. Center in Northridge, and how does it work?
The North Valley (Nicole Bernson) S.A.F.E. Center is at 10241 N. Balboa Blvd., open Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The line starts on Devonshire St. between Amestoy Ave. and Balboa Blvd. You stay in your car with the engine off while staff unload. The limit is 15 gallons or 125 pounds of hazardous waste per visit, and they'll ask where the waste came from.
What do I do with office computers and monitors in Northridge?
California bans TVs, monitors, laptops, printers and phones from the trash. Wipe any personal or company data first. Homeowners can take e-waste to a S.A.F.E. Center or list large items on a LASAN bulky pickup. For a business, look up an approved collector in CalRecycle's eRecycle directory, since the S.A.F.E. program and the County's one-day events are set up for residents.
Is there a free place to drop off bulky items in Northridge?
Yes. LASAN's West Valley yard at 8840 Vanalden Ave. opens for free bulky-item drop-off one Saturday a month, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For the rest of 2026, that's October 10, November 21 and December 12. The same yard takes up to four tires a year from City residents on weekday mornings.
I'm moving out of a rental near CSUN. What can the City take?
If LASAN services the building, book a free bulky pickup for furniture and a Move-In/Move-Out pickup for boxes and bags, both at least one business day before trash day. Boxes must be flattened and tied, under 30 pounds, and no larger than 2 by 3 feet. Larger complexes may use their own hauler, so ask your manager. The moving-out checklist covers the rest.
How far is Northridge from your base?
About 10 miles in a straight line from our yard on Victory Blvd in North Hollywood. That's a map distance, not a drive time. Same-day service most days when you reach us by early afternoon; next-morning slots are common. Photos sent early in the day help us plan the trip.
Where can I donate furniture near Northridge?
Goodwill Southern California runs a donation center at 11243 Tampa Ave. in Porter Ranch, and the Salvation Army lists a thrift store at 10158 Balboa Blvd. in Granada Hills. Hope the Mission has a thrift store at 18167 Chatsworth St. in Granada Hills. Each has its own rules on condition and what it accepts, so call ahead.
Can I haul my own load to a landfill from Northridge?
Yes. Sunshine Canyon Landfill in Sylmar is the Valley's main public landfill and takes drop-offs without an appointment during business hours. Bring a completed Origin Report Form. Every load is charged a one-ton minimum, so a small pickup-truck load costs about as much as a full ton. Chiquita Canyon in Castaic no longer takes waste.
How do I get a price in Northridge?
Text photos of what needs to go and your ZIP code, and we'll send back a price by text. For an office, include the floor, the elevator situation and your building's move-out hours. For a house, a wide shot of the garage or room tells us more than close-ups.
