Junk removal in Sun Valley

5.0 on Google from 463 reviews

Sun Valley is mostly detached houses, which makes it one of the easier Valley neighborhoods to put a roll-off bin in. This page covers renting one here: where it goes, the ZIP code that trips people up, what older houses add to a load, and when you're better off skipping the rental.

Where a bin sits on a Sun Valley lot

About six in ten housing units in ZIP 91352 are single-family detached homes, and only about a quarter are in buildings of five units or more.[1] So most bin requests here are for a house with its own driveway, and that's where we aim to set it.

15-yard bin: $479, with 1 ton of disposal, delivery and pickup included. 20-yard bin: $579, with 2 tons of disposal, delivery and pickup included. Rental length and any charge over the included weight are confirmed when you book. Prices are for addresses within about 10 miles of North Hollywood (91606). Farther out? Call or text for a price.

Measure before you call. A short driveway, or a gate partway up it, may only take the 15. Look up, too: a carport roof, low branches or wires over the drop spot all get in the way when the truck sets the bin down.

Signed sweeping routes get swept every other week, and vehicles left in the zone that day are cited.[2]

Check the ZIP before you book

Sun Valley's main ZIP is 91352.[3] The one to watch is 91504, which the County lists as shared between Sun Valley and the City of Burbank.[3] That line matters a lot for bins.

Your trash service settles it. If LA Sanitation empties your carts, you're in the City of LA and this page applies. If the City of Burbank does, you're under Burbank's rules, and our Burbank page covers junk pickup there.

Older houses, heavier loads

The median home in 91352 was built in 1961,[1] so plenty of bin rentals here go with remodels of houses more than sixty years old. Two things follow from that.

Weight. Old patios, block walls and tile floors are dense. They use up a bin's weight allowance well before it looks full. LA Sanitation won't take concrete, bricks or dirt at the curb,[4] so a bin or a paid haul is the realistic route for them. Say what's coming out when you book, because that's when weight limits get set. The concrete and dirt guide lists other options.

What's in the material. CalRecycle notes that asbestos can be present in some older cement, roofing, flooring and siding, and it's on the state's banned-from-trash list.[5] If you're pulling up tile or siding from that era, get it tested before any of it goes near a bin.

Sun Valley's disposal district

For one neighborhood, Sun Valley has an unusual amount of waste infrastructure. LA Sanitation's list of City-certified C&D processors includes three here: America's Recycling Company 3 on Glenoaks Blvd., Crown Recycling Services on DeGarmo Ave. and East Valley Diversion on Sheldon St.[6] WM's Sun Valley Recycling Park transfer station is on Tujunga Ave.[7] That's general information about the area, not a description of where any particular bin ends up.

For someone renting a bin, the handier sites are the ones that take what a bin can't. The East Valley S.A.F.E. Center at 11025 Randall St. is open weekends, 9 to 3,[8] for paint, solvents, pool chemicals, batteries and electronics,[9] up to 15 gallons or 125 pounds a trip.[9] Scrap metal and large appliances can go to SA Recycling's yard at 8250 Tujunga Ave.,[10] which asks anyone selling scrap for photo ID.[10] Pulling the metal out first frees up room in the bin.

The short version of what stays out of anything we haul:

We don't take paint, chemicals (like motor oil and solvents), tires, asbestos, medical waste, ammunition or propane tanks, empty or full. We'll point you to the right drop-off.

Before the bin arrives

Sun Valley bin prep

  • Confirm LA Sanitation, not Burbank, collects your trash.
  • Measure the driveway and note any gate, carport or overhead wires.
  • List heavy material (concrete, block, tile, dirt) so the weight limit fits the job.
  • Test suspect flooring, siding or roofing from the 1950s to the 1970s before demo.
  • Box up paint, batteries and chemicals for the Randall St. S.A.F.E. Center.

When a pickup is the better call

A bin pays off when debris piles up over days. If the pile already exists, like a cleared-out garage, a shed that's already down or furniture from a move, a crew that loads everything in one visit usually costs less and takes less of your weekend. Same-day service most days when you reach us by early afternoon; next-morning slots are common. For a few bulky items with no deadline, LA Sanitation's East Valley yard at 11050 Pendleton St. opens for free Saturday drop-off once a month.[4]

We're a family-run crew on Victory Blvd in North Hollywood, right next door. Send photos of the project or the pile, your address and your timing, and we'll say which option fits.

Questions

My ZIP is 91504. Can I get a bin from you?

It depends which side of the line you're on. The County lists 91504 as shared by Sun Valley and the City of Burbank. Your trash service tells you which city you're in: LA Sanitation means City of LA, a Burbank truck means Burbank. On the Burbank side, see our Burbank page for junk pickup instead.

Where does the bin usually go at a Sun Valley house?

In the driveway, when it fits. Most housing in ZIP 91352 is detached single-family homes, so a private driveway is the normal spot. Measure it first.

Can I fill a bin with broken concrete or dirt from a yard project?

Tell us before we book. Concrete, block, tile and soil are dense, and they hit a bin's weight limit long before the bin looks full. Weight limits are confirmed when you book, so describing the material up front avoids surprises. LA Sanitation won't take concrete, bricks or dirt at the curb, which is why these projects usually end up in a bin or a haul.

My house was built around 1960. Anything to check before demo?

Yes: possible asbestos. CalRecycle says it can show up in some older cement, roofing, flooring and siding, and it's banned from the trash in California. Half the homes in ZIP 91352 were built before about 1961, so if you're tearing out old tile, siding or roofing, have it tested before anything goes in a bin.

Where do paint and batteries go if they can't go in the bin?

Sun Valley has a City drop-off for exactly that: the East Valley S.A.F.E. Center at 11025 Randall St., open Saturday and Sunday from 9 to 3. It takes paint, solvents, pool chemicals, batteries and electronics, up to 15 gallons or 125 pounds per trip. The North Valley center on Balboa Blvd. in Northridge keeps the same weekend hours.

Is a bin or a pickup better for a Sun Valley garage cleanout?

If you'll sort and fill over several weekends, a bin. If everything's already in the garage and you just want it gone, a crew pickup is usually faster and often cheaper, because the crew does the loading and nothing sits in your driveway. For a few bulky items and no deadline, LA Sanitation's free monthly drop-off day at its Pendleton St. yard is worth a look.
